There is no doubt that France, with the presence of the Eiffel Tower, is one of the most attractive tourist destinations for foreign visitors. In fact, France has always held the top spot on the list of the world’s most visited countries.
However, the beauty of trendy France could eventually be overtaken by another country. Evidence of this is the increasing number of popular tourist destinations worldwide that are nearly as famous as the Eiffel Tower.
Spain Set to Surpass France as Global Tourism Leader by 2040
According to the NextGen Travellers and Destinations study, a study conducted through a collaboration between Google and the multinational professional services network Deloitte, France is expected to remain at the top position as the world’s most visited country in 2025 but will eventually drop to second place.
Spain may well overtake France by 2040, with an estimated number of foreign tourist visits reaching 110 million annually.
Moreover, according to Spain’s National Statistics Office, Instituto Nacional de Estadistica, Spain has already broken its own record in terms of the number of foreign tourist visits.
Furthermore, the study also predicts that by 2040, the Mediterranean region, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and the Caribbean will become tourist destinations for 45% of global travelers, with the total number of trips made worldwide estimated to reach 2.4 billion.
