Giant Gundam Statue to Be Featured at Expo Osaka 2025

The giant Gundam statue is no stranger to those who have seen it in Japan. Originally, the moving statue was displayed in front of the Yokohama Gundam Factory in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Unfortunately, the moving Gundam statue was dismantled, and the Yokohama Gundam Factory officially ceased operations in April 2024.

Return of the Gundam Statue at Expo 2025

Gundam fans need not worry, as the giant Gundam statue will make a grand return at the world-class event Expo Osaka 2025. Bandai Namco Holdings, the official Gundam license holder, will showcase the RX-78 Gundam — the original model featured in the 1979 anime Mobile Suit Gundam — which is also a reconstructed version of the Yokohama giant statue.

Unlike the previous standing and movable statue in Yokohama, the Gundam statue at Expo 2025 will not stand upright nor move. Instead, it will be posed kneeling with its hand reaching toward the sky, symbolizing the spirit of striving toward the future. The statue will stand over 16 meters tall and will be on display throughout the six-month event, from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
