Tracking a phone number is often needed, starting from ensuring the safety of buying and selling transactions, checking scam numbers, to finding family members. There are many ways: through number-checking websites, third-party apps, official Google/Apple features, and operator services. Important: always follow laws & privacy, do not track people without permission except for safety reasons or at the request of authorities.
How to Track a Phone Number via Google Maps
This method works if the target is willing to share their location. If the location is not shared, Google Maps cannot track without account access/permission.
- Open the Google Maps app
- Tap the menu section
- Tap the Location menu, and click the Start button on the Share Location page
- A duration option will appear for how long the location will be shared
- Select the More menu
- Type the phone number or email address you want to track, then send it
How to Track a Phone Number Without an App
Tracking a number doesn't always require using an app; you can also track a number without an application, a safe option without installing additional apps.
- Through Credible Number Tracking Websites
- WhatsApp Web/Chat: sometimes numbers that have previously chatted may store location; however, for real-time location, you still need to request "Share Location."
- Find My Device / official services: only for devices that are connected to the owner’s account (not for other people without permission).
How to Track a Scammer’s Phone Number
- Check the number on credible platforms such as Getcontact, Truecaller, or Whoscall.
- Save evidence (chat, number, date, transfer proof).
- Report it to the marketplace/bank/operator and/or to cyber police.
Legal / Ethical Limitations and Notes
Tracking a location without permission may violate privacy and the law. Use location-sharing features only with consent. If there is a threat or fraud, report it to the authorities, as they have lawful access for investigation.
