The performance of Umrah independently or privately, often referred to as independent Umrah, now has clearer regulations from the authorities. In the context of Indonesia, under Law Number 8 of 2019 on the Implementation of Hajj and Umrah (PIHU), Umrah, whether performed in groups or individually, must still go through an organizer registered as an official PPIU (Umrah Travel Organizer).
Requirements for Independent Umrah
Some general requirements for performing independent Umrah include:
-
Possessing a passport valid for at least 6 months from the departure date.
-
Preparing round-trip flight tickets and proof of accommodation/hotel bookings in Mecca or Medina.
-
Booking hotels that have official permits or tasreh from the Saudi authorities.
-
Ensuring the Umrah is organized through an official PPIU to guarantee protection and legality.
Important Notes
Although the term independent Umrah refers to traveling alone or in a small group without a large tour package, it is important to note that departure without going through an official PPIU is still not permitted under Indonesian regulations. For safety and clarity of procedures, including visa processing and accommodation, it is recommended to use a registered official travel organizer.
