King Salman International Airport, located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is expected to become the largest airport in the world once its construction is completed in 2030.
According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), the airport will span more than 57 square kilometers, consisting of six large parallel runways, and will be equipped with recreational facilities, accommodation units, and a retail area covering 12 km.
King Salman International Airport will eventually be integrated with the operational terminal of King Khalid International Airport, which is currently operating in Riyadh.
Project Scale and Vision
It is estimated that the airport will serve more than 100 million passengers annually, and by 2050, it is expected to handle over 185 million passengers and 3.5 million tons of cargo each year.
As part of Saudi Vision 2030 spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, King Salman International Airport is being built with a total budget exceeding $29 billion (approximately IDR 473 trillion). Once operational, the airport is also expected to provide more than 150,000 job opportunities.
Saudi Vision 2030 itself is Saudi Arabia’s plan to enhance the country’s social, economic, and cultural growth, thereby strengthening Saudi Arabia’s presence as a hub for business and tourism.
Other projects planned under Saudi Vision 2030 include King Fahad’s Fountain, Red Sea Mall, Uhud Mountain, Hegra, and King Abdullah Park.
