Make Sure Your Bag or Suitcase is Locked
Although thieves may still manage to break into locked bags, never underestimate this tip. Locked bags make it harder and take longer for thieves to steal, increasing the chance they get caught.
Keep Valuables Close to Your Seat
Use a small sling bag or pouch to store valuables. Keep this bag close to your seat—under the seat near your feet is a good spot. Another tip is to hook the bag onto your seat leg, so it’s harder for someone to take it unnoticed. Ideally, use a small crossbody or waist bag that stays attached to your body throughout the flight.
Store Bags in Overhead Bins Opposite Your Seat
For example, if you sit on the left side, place your bag in the overhead bin on the right side, and vice versa. This way, your bag remains within your field of vision during the flight.
Report Suspicious People to Flight Attendants Immediately
If you notice someone acting suspiciously on the plane, don’t hesitate to report it to the cabin crew, who have the authority to take action. However, make sure your suspicion is valid to avoid wrongly accusing or offending others.
Report Theft Immediately
If you become a victim of theft in the cabin, report it promptly to the airline. It’s also recommended to involve local police to investigate the incident. Having a police report and an official statement from the airline will help you file an insurance claim if applicable.
