A passport is an official travel document issued by a government that certifies a person's identity and nationality for international travel. It allows the holder to enter and stay temporarily in other countries.
Around the world, some passports are considered particularly powerful, meaning their holders can travel internationally without the need for a visa. A visa is a conditional authorization granted by a country to a foreigner, allowing entry, stay, or departure from its territory.
For years, Japan’s passport has held the title of the most powerful in the world. It allows its holders to travel to 194 countries without requiring a visa.
However, recently, Japan’s position has been overtaken by Singapore, which now holds the world’s most powerful passport.
Singaporean passport holders can travel to 195 countries visa-free, one more than those holding Japanese passports.
Japan is now in second place, sharing the rank with France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, whose passports all provide visa-free access to 194 countries.
