Indonesia’s aviation industry continues to grow with the introduction of new routes launched by various local airlines, especially with the month of Ramadan just around the corner.
Several local airlines in Indonesia have announced the opening of new routes to popular destinations as well as to regions that previously had limited access.
So, which airlines are involved, and where are these new routes heading?
Lion Air
In 2025, Lion Air expanded its flight network by adding several new routes to enhance intercity connectivity in Indonesia. The newly announced routes include:
Palangkaraya to Makassar, Bali, and Lombok
Starting March 21 and 22, 2025, Lion Air will operate direct flights from Tjilik Riwut Airport, Palangkaraya (PKY) to three popular destinations:
- Makassar: Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport (UPG)
- Bali: I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)
- Lombok: Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport (LOP)
These flights will be operated using Boeing 737-800NG aircraft with 189 economy class seats and Boeing 737-900ER with 215 economy class seats.
Manado to Bali
Also beginning March 21, 2025, Lion Air launched a non-stop route connecting Manado, North Sulawesi to Bali. This route uses Boeing 737-900ER (215 seats) and Boeing 737-800NG (189 seats), both configured for economy class.
AirAsia
In 2025, AirAsia plans to expand its network by launching several new international routes:
- Jakarta – Darwin: Operational from March 22, 2025, connecting Jakarta to Darwin, Australia.
- Jakarta – Australia (other cities): Planned to begin mid-2025. Specific cities are yet to be announced.
- Jakarta – India: A new route to India is expected to open sometime in 2025. Further details will be announced.
- Denpasar – Darwin: Starting March 22, 2025, this route will operate three times a week connecting Bali to Darwin.
Pelita Air
In 2025, Pelita Air announced plans to expand its network with both domestic and international routes:
International Route:

Jakarta – Singapore: Daily direct flights are expected to begin in late March 2025.
Domestic Route:

Jakarta – Makassar – Ambon: Planned to launch in the second half of 2025 to improve access to Eastern Indonesia.
Additionally, Pelita Air plans to strengthen its fleet with the arrival of 6 new Airbus A320 aircraft throughout 2025.
Super Air Jet
Super Air Jet is expanding its service coverage in 2025 with several new domestic routes aimed at boosting intercity connectivity:
- Jakarta (CGK) – Lubuklinggau (LLG)
- Jakarta (CGK) – Jayapura (DJJ)
- Jakarta (CGK) – Ternate (TTE)
- Jakarta (CGK) – Palu (PLW)

(All operational starting January 3 or January 10, 2025) -
Pontianak (PNK) – Banjarmasin (BDJ) – Lombok (LOP):
This route began on February 22, 2025.
These expansions are part of Super Air Jet’s commitment to providing more travel options and supporting tourism and economic growth across regions in Indonesia.
Wings Air
Wings Air, part of the Lion Air Group, has announced several new routes in 2025 to strengthen regional connectivity:
From Minangkabau International Airport (BIM), West Sumatra:
- Mentawai: To Mentawai Airport (BUM)
- Pekanbaru: To the capital of Riau
- Jambi
- Bengkulu: To Fatmawati Soekarno Airport
- Gunung Sitoli: To Nias Island in North Sumatra
(Operations planned before March 20, 2025)
From Bengkulu:
- Bengkulu – Mukomuko
- Bengkulu – Padang
Kendari – Morowali:
A daily route connecting Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi) to Morowali (Central Sulawesi), starting February 1, 2025.
These new routes are expected to improve mobility, support local economies, and provide more travel options for the public.
Citilink
In 2025, Citilink launched a new route connecting Jakarta and Way Kanan, Lampung, with its inaugural flight on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. The route connects Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (HLP) in Jakarta with Gatot Soebroto Airport (WTX) in Way Kanan.
This service operates twice a week—every Wednesday and Sunday—using ATR72 Series 600 aircraft.
In addition to this, Citilink plans to open more new routes in Eastern Indonesia throughout 2025. While specific destinations have not yet been disclosed, this expansion aligns with Citilink’s strategy to increase accessibility and meet growing transportation needs.
These new route openings are expected to improve regional connectivity, boost local economic growth, and provide Indonesian travelers with more travel options throughout 2025.
